Utilizing advanced technology and a highly skilled team, we deliver accurate cuts that meet the exact requirements of your projects. Our saw cutting capabilities cater to a wide variety of materials and dimensions, ensuring flexibility and reliability for both standard and custom orders. Whether for construction, manufacturing, or specialized applications, Acier Lachine’s commitment to quality ensures that you receive perfectly cut materials that contribute to the success of your project.

The Saw Cutting Process at Acier Lachine

  • Material Preparation: First, we make sure the material is securely fastened, providing a stable foundation for a precise cut.

  • Blade Selection: Choosing the right blade is key. Depending on the material and the cut needed, we select the perfect band saw blade to get the job done right.

  • Cutting Setup: We meticulously adjust our band saw, fine-tuning the blade speed and tension to align with the material’s specifications, guaranteeing an accurate cut.

  • Cutting Execution: With everything set, we carefully feed the material into the moving blade. Our attention to detail ensures the blade cuts through the material cleanly and efficiently, maintaining an even tooth load throughout for consistent results.

  • Kerf Management: We pay close attention to the kerf—the width cut by the blade—as it plays a crucial role in the accuracy of our cuts, removing just the right amount of material.

  • Quality Check: After the cut, we conduct a thorough inspection to ensure the edges are smooth and the dimensions meet your precise specifications.

  • Final Adjustments: To maintain our high standards, we’re always fine-tuning our saw settings, ensuring each cut thereafter is just as precise.

Types of Band Saws used at Acier Lachine

  • Horizontal Band Saws: These hold the material stationary while the blade swings down through the cut, making them ideal for cutting long materials like pipes and bars to specific lengths.

  • Vertical Band Saws: Also known as contour saws, these keep the blade’s path stationary while the material is moved across it. This type is used for more complex cutting tasks, including contouring and precise shapes.

Advantages of Saw Cutting

Saw cutting offers numerous benefits, such as:

  • Straight and Accurate Cuts: Ideal for applications requiring precision, such as in the aerospace, architectural, and pharmaceutical industries.

  • Reduced Material Waste: The narrow kerf of band saw blades means less material is lost during cutting, enhancing material utilization.

  • High-Quality Finishes: The cuts produced are clean and often require minimal finishing, saving time and reducing costs.

  • Precision and Accuracy: Band saws are capable of producing highly accurate cuts with minimal material waste. The kerf, or width of the material removed by the cut, is slightly larger than the blade itself, ensuring a clean, precise cut.

  • Versatility: Band saws can handle a wide range of material thicknesses and shapes, making them suitable for cutting bars, plates, pipes, and tubes. They can also accommodate irregular and customized shapes.

  • Efficiency: Advanced band saws, especially those equipped with CNC (Computer Numerical Control), offer high-speed, automated cutting capabilities, which are ideal for large production runs.

FAQs about Saw Cutting

We employ both horizontal and vertical band saws and circular saw-cut systems capable of cutting bars, tubes, plates, sheets and profiles. Band saws are preferred for straight, accurate cuts with minimal kerf, especially on structural shapes and aluminium/non-ferrous metals.

We support cutting of steel, stainless steel and aluminium in forms such as plates, flat bars, tubes, I-beams, channels. Sizes range from thin sheet up to heavy plate or section (typically widths/lengths compatible with our saw table capacity); cut-to-size within local stock is standard in Greater Montréal.

For stocked materials and standard quantities, many cut-to-length saw jobs can be completed within 24 to 48 hours for clients in the Greater Montreal / southernQuébec region, provided prior notice and availability of stock.

Provide: material type (steel/aluminium/etc.), form (plate, bar, tube), original piece size (width × length × thickness/diameter), desired final length(s), quantity, any tolerances or finish-requirements (e.g., deburr), and delivery or pickup location. This enables accurate quoting and scheduling.

By performing saw-cuts in-house at the Lachine facility, we reduce external fees, control turnaround, leverage local trucking/delivery and simplify logistics for clients in southern Québec—especially useful for just-in-time fabrication workflows.

On receipt check: correct length, clean edge finish, material surface for damage, removal of burrs if specified, match of lengths to the cut list, and secure loading/unloading. If any piece deviates from specification, notify our team immediately for resolution before on-site use.
